Recording Studio
Our Music suite includes an Industry Standard recording studio. Students studying music from year 9 onwards are provided with the knowledge and skills to be able to successfully record, mix and produce their own music product.
Instrumental Tuition
Selected students are offered free small group instrumental tuition through the IMS (DECS Instrumental Music Service) and through qualified instrumental instructors provided by the school. Tuition is offered in Woodwind, Brass, String and Rhythm Section instruments.
The school has a selection of instruments available for hire at a subsidised rate for students receiving tuition through the school.
MGHS Concert Band
The MGHS Concert Band (with strings!) formed in 2007 and has a current membership of around 20 students. The Concert Band rehearses after school on Wednesdays from 3:30 until 5pm. All instrumentalists (including string players) welcome.
MGHS Vocal Ensemble
The MGHS Vocal Ensemble rehearses two lunchtimes a week. In 2007 a small selection of students from the Vocal Ensemble performed with the MGHS Concert Band as part of the national Music! Count Us In! promotion. Entry is by audition.
Performance Opportunities
Music students participate in regular performances with audiences including their class peers, the whole school community at assemblies as well as wider community performances for organizations like Rotary and Probus. Biannually students are also able to audition to be part of the MGHS Theatre Production Band which accompanies the school musical. A highlight of the school performing year is Presentation and Performance Evening held at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre in Term 4.
The newly constructed Amphitheatre (complete with 3 phase power!) provides an ideal performance arena for lunch time performances by current and past students as well as visiting guest artists.

At Year 12 level students are able to undertake studies in the following SSABSA courses:
- Composing and Arranging
- Musicianship
- Music In Context
