Japanese
Japan Trip 2008
In a region reliant on the export of primary resources to Asian nations, the study of Japanese is important for the development of inter-cultural communication skills. In this context, Mount Gambier High School offers a Year 8 to Y12 pathway in Japanese.
This pathway also contains several opportunities for exchange with students from our sister school in Japan (Takarazuka Nishi High School in Hyogo Prefecture) including: a three month exchange to Japan for two Y10-Y11 students every year, a three week cultural and language exchange for a larger group of students every second year (running in even years 2008, 2010, 2012 etc), and the opportunity to host a group of exchange students from our sister school every year.
In addition to this direct cultural contact the Japanese program runs a yearly exchange to the city of Adelaide to visit the Himeji garden, taste a Japanese meal at a Japanese restaurant and visit other culturally relevant locations such as the central market.
The Japanese program at Mount Gambier High School utilizes the latest in teaching methodology (intercultural language learning and communicative language teaching) and technology (interactive white boards) for teaching and learning purposes.
