Canteen
The Canteen is staffed by Canteen Manager, Gena McCarthy, Barbara Harvey, Helen Walker (part-time workers) and our parent volunteers. The purpose is to provide students with the option to choose healthy foods and drinks. As from 2008, it is mandatory to have only healthy food choices served in the Canteen.
The Canteen Committee, a sub-committee of Governing Council meets twice a term approximately and oversees the provision of healthy food, pricing, adequate staffing, allocation of profits into school funds and any other issues that may arise.

The beginning of 2008 saw the final step implementing the Right Bite Healthy Eating Strategy, a healthy eating programme mandatory for all government and independent schools. This strategy was introduced by the state government to assist in the development of healthy eating in not only the provision of healthy food in school canteens but also across the school curriculum.
Our Canteen manager, along with other Canteen Managers in the district, attended workshops run by the Department with guides on how to 'green' the menu, advising nutritious foods (green and yellow) which can be served through the canteen. 'Red' foods can only be served twice a term.
Aerated drinks, full fat milk drinks, lollies, chips were no longer available for sale but the students gradually adjusted to the changes. Yoghurt became popular again, bottled water was always popular and low fat milk drinks and fruit juices (99% fruit) including Slushies are popular. Cake recipes were adjusted to meet the fat, sodium, sugar requirements so they were still available for sale, falling into the yellow food group.

Sushi rolls, introduced in term 1 as part of the summer menu, are once again on the menu in term 4. Stir fry dishes, noodles, fried rice and tuna pasta bake have been introduced on Fridays to gauge their popularity. Fruit salad, salads, sandwiches, rolls, and chicken pitas are some of the healthy options available from the self service area in the canteen at very reasonable prices.
While the profit this year has been reduced slightly from previous years, the Committee is satisfied with the way the students have adjusted to the new menu and the Committee is always keen to hear of any new suggestions that are not too labour intensive. This year's profit will be transferred into school funds to assist in funding in areas across the school curriculum. Over the last 4 years, the Canteen Committee has provided 4 Graphic Calculator Scholarships for Year 10 Maths students undertaking General Maths or Maths ABC(D) in years 11 and 12.
