Resource Centre
In recent years the resource centre redevelopment has resulted in a significant improvement in the way the library is used and the services to which staff and students have access.
The separation of the research areas, inclusion of computers into both, creation of a quiet reading area and an expansion of the private study area has seen a more efficient use of library space and resources. It has also encouraged students to access a range of source materials - book, non-book and electronic - for research and personal information gathering.
Links to the library catalogue, search pathfinders and Webquests are available via the library home page and can be accessed from any computer across the school. Students have access to digital still and video cameras and audio recorders to assist them in the gathering of information and to enhance the presentation of their work.
The fiction, non-fiction and AV collections are extensive and cater for a wide range of interests and reading levels as well as curriculum needs. Over the past three years the graphic novel collection has grown and proven to be particularly popular with the boys.
In 2007 the Resource Centre staff assumed responsibility for the housing and management of the block text collection, providing a one-stop-centre for curriculum resources and distribution.
The Resource Centre is open from 8.15am to 4.00pm and staff and students can access services throughout the day either individually or as a class. Two teacher librarians and two SSOs are available to assist students and work collaboratively with staff to develop research tasks and units of work. Any request for specific resources - book, DVD and or electronic - is welcomed and we are generally able and happy to meet staff and student needs.
