Design & Technology

At Mount Gambier High School, students in Design and Technology study a design based curriculum in a practical environment. They have the opportunity to work collaboratively on problem based learning situations, encouraging students to build both team working and critical thinking skills, while learning practical competence.

After establishing foundation skills in Woodwork, Metalwork and Plastics, Year 8 students are involved in an integrated problem based curriculum with the Arts Faculty. Students work in small groups to solve a class problem, and then test their outcome.

Students in Years 9 to 12 have the opportunity to work in; Woodwork, Metalwork, Electronics, Robotics and Photography. All pathways have direct links with local industry. Yr. 10 students are also able to choose Future Build and Automotive, directly preparing students for Doorways to Construction and Automotive VET programs. Mount Gambier High school runs a Pedal Prix HPV team as a part of Design and Technology. A new trike was purchased in 2018, and the team successfully competes in a number of endurance races each year.
