Middle School

Middle School (Years 7 to 9)

At Mount Gambier High School, our vision is for students to develop the skills, confidence, and curiosity they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. We provide a learning environment that values innovation, creativity, and agile thinking, while also ensuring that every student feels a strong sense of belonging.

Program Structure and Support

The Middle School program is designed to provide both stability and challenge, helping students make a smooth transition into high school and supporting them as they grow from one year to the next. Homegroup teachers often teach their classes across multiple subjects, enabling them to build strong relationships, know their students well, and provide consistent support and guidance. Positive relationships and a culture of belonging are central to successful learning.

Curriculum and Learning Opportunities

Our curriculum meets the diverse needs of students, offering a balance of core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities, along with a wide range of electives. Electives allow students to explore future-focused areas such as The Arts, Technologies, STEM, and Health and Physical Education. Students are encouraged to take an active role in their learning journey and explore their strengths and interests.

For further information about Middle School subject offerings please refer to our Course Counselling Booklet.

Developing Skills and Independence

In the Middle School, students are encouraged to:

  • Explore their strengths, interests, and passions.
  • Develop critical and creative thinking skills.
  • Build independence and resilience in their learning.
  • Take part in collaborative projects that connect learning to real-world experiences.

Our aim is to provide a safe and supportive environment where students feel empowered to take on new challenges, learn from mistakes, and recognise their potential for success.
