Wellbeing Programs
Wellbeing Regulation Room
The Wellbeing Regulation Room (Yarnbala) provides students with a safe and inclusive space to help them regulate their minds and bodies so they can return to learning in a calm and focused state. It offers opportunities for students to regulate independently or with support (co-regulate), ensuring they can re-engage positively in the classroom.
In addition to supporting regulation, the room allows students to share any issues or concerns affecting their wellbeing. With guidance from wellbeing staff, students can develop strategies and tools, take part in restorative conversations, or be connected with the most appropriate staff member for further support, ensuring their needs are addressed in a respectful and supportive environment.
Wellbeing Connect
Wellbeing Connect is a ten-minute check-in service for students in Years 7–12 who need extra support with their wellbeing. Referrals can be made by staff, parents/carers, or students, and each check-in is led by a consistent wellbeing staff member to build positive connections, encourage self-assessment, and develop strategies for mental health. The frequency of sessions is tailored to individual needs, with ongoing monitoring to identify emerging concerns around wellbeing, engagement, or attendance, and referrals to additional internal or external supports provided where necessary.
Wellbeing Programs
The Wellbeing Team provides a range of group programs designed to strengthen social-emotional skills and support students’ wellbeing. These targeted programs are offered on a referral basis and include:
- Seasons for Growth (coping with significant life changes)
- Mindful Me (managing stress and worries)
- Managing Me (understanding and managing anger)
- Empowering Me (body and mind empowerment for Year 9/10 girls)
- Rites of Passage (navigating important life transitions)
In addition to group programs, the school also runs a Breakfast Program each morning (8:15–8:45am) and a Lunch Program during the first half of lunch daily. Both programs are open to all students, providing a welcoming space with food and support to start the day well and feel connected throughout the school week.
Case Management
Case Management at Mount Gambier High School supports students at risk of disengagement by offering mentoring and social-emotional learning tailored to individual needs. The program helps students build positive connections, independence, and life skills such as resilience and problem-solving, while promoting positive mental health and wellbeing.
Run by a Youth Worker or Wellbeing Leader, Case Management involves a flexible six-phase process, from referral to planning, implementation, and review, ensuring students are supported with clear goals and ongoing guidance. This collaborative approach empowers students to stay engaged in school and develop the skills needed for success both now and in the future.
Headspace Support
Students can access additional mental health support through headspace practitioners who visit our school. Referrals are made by Youth Workers, Wellbeing Leaders, or Learning and Engagement Leaders.
On-site sessions are available depending on demand, and students can also be referred to headspace services outside of school. Please note that parental consent is required for all referrals and access to headspace support.
Attendance Support/Flexibility
We recognise some students may require additional flexibility to support their learning and wellbeing. Exemptions can be granted for medical or wellbeing reasons, allowing adjustments to subject choices and timetables. Senior School students may also apply for Home Study or Open Access enrolments to suit their individual pathways.
To further support students, Team Around Child (TAC) meetings may be arranged to address attendance, wellbeing, and tailored learning needs. Through collaboration and negotiation, personalised supports are developed in line with Department guidelines to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
