Inclusive Education

At Mount Gambier High School, we believe every student should complete their secondary education as a literate and numerate learner, equipped with self-regulation and interpersonal skills to succeed in any pathway they choose. We recognise that some students may need additional support to reach this goal.

To support all learners, we offer a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), which provides tailored assistance based on individual student needs and their One Plan goals. This includes targeted interventions designed to help students achieve their full potential.

Students are identified for additional support using data-informed practices. We track and monitor their progress and respond with timely interventions. This is achieved through collaboration with the Department for Education Support Services and private providers.

Our dedicated team of experienced support staff work with students individually or in small groups, depending on their needs.

Support programs offered at our school include:

  • Literacy intervention
  • Numeracy intervention
  • Social skills development
  • Emotional regulation support

Students may participate in one or more of these programs, depending on their individual requirements.

For students with more complex needs, we provide highly personalised, one-on-one support. This is available to students who meet the eligibility criteria for the Department for Education’s Inclusive Education Support Program (IESP).

Specialised Education

Mount Gambier High School offers a Special Options classroom for students in Years 7 to 12. This class provides highly individualised support and a tailored curriculum that focuses on building independent living and learning skills.

Students engage with a modified curriculum designed to meet their individual learning goals. The program prioritises the development of functional literacy and numeracy, supporting greater social independence and everyday life skills.

From Year 10 onwards, students have the opportunity to access supported TAFE courses and begin exploring post-school pathways, including supported or open employment.

Placement in the Special Options class is determined through a formal process, which includes assessment by Department for Education psychologists and special educators, in consultation with students and their families. For further information about the Special Options class or the placement process, please contact the school.
