Tailored Learning

At Mount Gambier High School, Tailored Learning (TL) offers a flexible, student-centred approach to education for young people who may be finding traditional schooling difficult to access or engage with. Whether the challenges are emotional, social, behavioural, academic, or cultural, Tailored Learning is designed to respond to each student’s individual situation.

This program supports students from Years 8 to 12 and beyond, with a strong focus on senior secondary students. It replaces the former Flexible Learning Options (FLO) program and builds on its strengths to better meet the needs of today’s learners.

Tailored Learning encourages students to have a say in their learning journey, creating space for their voice and choices to shape the direction of their education.

 

Learning That Fits the student

Tailored Learning adapts to each student’s needs. It may include a combination of learning environments, such as:

  • Designated areas within the school
  • Community-based programs
  • Off-campus learning
  • Vocational education and training (VET)
  • TAFE or other recognised training providers
  • Online platforms for remote learning

 

Pathways and Future Planning

Students in Tailored Learning are supported to explore and work toward meaningful future goals. Whether the aim is completing the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE), starting an apprenticeship, or pursuing a vocational qualification, Tailored Learning keeps students moving forward. All learning activities are aligned with their aspirations and designed to build skills for future success.

 

Eligibility

Students at Mount Gambier High School who are experiencing ongoing disengagement or barriers to learning may be considered for Tailored Learning. The program offers a fresh start and a personalised pathway for students who need an alternative to the traditional classroom model.
