Pedal Prix

Hands-On Learning in Motion

Pedal Prix is a specialist Design and Technology subject offered in year 9 and 10 that blends engineering, physical education, teamwork, and community involvement. Students design, build, maintain, and race human-powered vehicles (HPVs) in endurance events across South Australia, including the opening round of the UniSA Australian HPV Super Series, hosted in Mount Gambier. Based on the Technology curriculum, Design, Produce, and Evaluate, students work with materials such as wood, plastics, and electrical systems, while developing leadership, resilience, and problem-solving skills in a team environment.

Beyond the Workshop

The program also includes physical training, event organisation, and race-day strategy. Students prepare for long-distance racing, take on roles in logistics and repairs, and work together to perform under pressure. With up to three major weekend race events each year, Pedal Prix draws strong family and community support, with parents often assisting with transport, logistics, or cheering from the sidelines, helping build a strong sense of pride and belonging.

Important Considerations

  • Costs for weekend events, including travel and accommodation, are the responsibility of families.
  • Students must purchase a Mount Gambier High School Pedal Prix training t-shirt and jumper.

Who Should Join?

Pedal Prix is perfect for students who enjoy hands-on work, problem-solving, physical activity, and teamwork. It’s a dynamic pathway into STEM, offering real-world application, personal achievement, and the thrill of competition.
