Senior School

Senior School (Years 10 to 12)

Our Senior Years curriculum is designed to promote student voice, deep discipline knowledge, and meaningful learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom. Students are guided through SACE requirements and supported in exploring VET and Flexible Industry Pathways.

Learning is enhanced through immersion activities, industry visits, university experiences, and community partnerships, helping students connect their studies to real-world contexts.

Years 10–12: Personalised Learning Journeys

The Senior School (Years 10–12) is designed to meet the individual needs, interests, and aspirations of every student. A wide selection of subjects and pathways is available, supporting SACE completion and, for those aiming for higher education, the opportunity to achieve an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR).

This stage of schooling is an important time for students to explore their strengths and interests while making informed choices about their post-school future.

Building Independence and Responsibility

As students progress through the Senior Years, they are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their learning, personal growth, and decision-making. Pathways are flexible, enabling students to either follow a clear career goal or keep a broad range of options open. Opportunities may include:

    • Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses
    • Apprenticeships and traineeships
    • Employment-based learning
    • University subjects and accelerated programs
    • Open Access enrolments
    • Participation in Limestone Coast Technical College programs

For some students, tailored learning programs are developed in consultation with a case manager to ensure individual support and success.

Pathways to the Future

At Mount Gambier High School, we are committed to connecting students with their passions and supporting clear pathways into further education, training, and employment. Our strong record of SACE completion reflects the dedication of both staff and students, with many graduates successfully transitioning to university, apprenticeships, traineeships, and the workforce.

Career Education across the Senior Years

Career education is an integral part of the Senior School experience.

    • Year 10 – Pathways: Students undertake the subject Pathways, which includes Career Immersion and Exploring Identities and Futures. This program helps students build self-awareness, decision-making skills, and career planning knowledge.
    • Year 11 – Activating Identities and Futures: Students set a personal learning goal, design a program of study, collect evidence of achievement, and reflect on their progress, preparing them for life beyond school.
