MGHS and Compton Primary School Mark Vietnam Veterans Day
On Wednesday 18th August, students and staff from Mount Gambier High School and Compton Primary School participated in the annual Vietnam Veterans Day memorial service at Vansittart Park, proudly continuing an important community tradition.
Representing both schools, a wreath was laid in honour of all those who served during the Vietnam War, with special acknowledgement to three local servicemen whose lives and legacies continue to shape our region:

Anthony Casadio, for whom the Italo-Australian Club is named, was a respected member of our local Italian and veteran communities.

David John Steen (originally from Penola, with family roots tracing back to the Falkland Islands) is remembered for his service and the unique journey of his family to the Limestone Coast.

John Rogers (Mount Gambier), another local hero, is honoured for his courage and dedication.
The event was thoughtfully facilitated by MGHS History Teacher, Mr Graeme Roulstone, who has championed this commemoration year after year. MGHS is proud to stand alongside Compton Primary School in ensuring younger generations understand the significance of national service and the stories of those from our own community.
We thank all staff, students, and community members who attended or contributed to this memorial, reinforcing the values of respect, remembrance, and gratitude that connect us all.
