As Semester 1 draws to a close, the final weeks of term will be a busy and important time for our senior students. Mid-year examinations provide valuable opportunities for students to develop their exam skills, build confidence and prepare for future assessment requirements.

For Stage 2 students, these exams are an important chance to practise effective exam techniques and strategies in preparation for their final SACE examinations later in the year. For Stage 1 students, the exam period provides valuable experience in understanding exam expectations and developing positive study routines and habits.

Exam Week: Monday 29 June – Friday 3 July

Please note that due to the Berri Secondary College Sporting and Cultural Exchange, a reduced exam schedule will operate on Wednesday and Thursday. Students participating in the exchange will be provided with alternative opportunities to complete their examinations.

Examinations will be held on the SACE Floor, as well as in Rooms 23 and 32. Room 29 will be used as the central meeting point for examinations and will also be available as a supervised study space between exams.

General Exam Expectations

All students are expected to:

  • Wear full school uniform.

  • Arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start of each examination.

  • Check and know their individual examination timetable.

  • Bring all required equipment and materials.

  • Leave bags, pencil cases, mobile phones, smart watches and other electronic devices outside examination rooms unless specifically permitted.

  • Bring bottled water if desired. Small lollies or bite-sized snacks may also be consumed if they are stored in a quiet, non-disruptive container.

Once marked, examination results will be published by subject teachers through Daymap as an assessment task for students and families to view.

While scheduled classes will not occur during exam week, some teachers may require students to attend sessions to complete or finalise assessment tasks.

Stage 1 Students

Stage 1 students are expected to remain on site from 8.40am to 3.15pm each day during exam week.

If students need to arrive late or leave early, a note or phone call from a parent or caregiver is required. Students are expected to attend all scheduled sessions, including Home Group.

Stage 2 Students

Stage 2 students are expected to be at school between 8.40am and 3.15pm unless they have approved home study arrangements.

Students with uncommitted lessons are encouraged to make productive use of the Study Floor and the Collaborative Learning Centre.

To ensure accurate attendance records and duty of care, students must sign in and out using the computer on the Study Floor when arriving or departing throughout the day.

For appointments or early departures, a parent or caregiver must notify the school, and students must sign out through the Student Office.

Students are encouraged to attend all lessons, Home Group sessions and study lines, as these provide valuable opportunities to seek support from teachers and prepare for assessments.

Semester 1 Reports

Semester 1 reports for all students will be available through Daymap on Friday 3 July. Families are encouraged to review reports carefully and contact the school if they have any questions or concerns.

Uniform and Attendance Reminders

As we move into the colder months, we ask all students to continue wearing the correct school uniform. Families experiencing difficulties accessing uniform items are encouraged to contact Michael Brooks, Senior Years Wellbeing Leader.

Regular attendance remains one of the strongest contributors to student success. Parents and caregivers can monitor attendance and classroom information through the Daymap Connect Parent Portal. If you require assistance accessing your account or resetting your login details, please refer to the information available on the Mount Gambier High School website.

If your child is absent from school, please notify the school by phone or via Daymap before 11.00am each day.

We wish all our senior students every success as they complete their final assessment tasks for Semester 1 and prepare for their mid-year examinations. Should students or families have any questions, please contact a member of the Senior School team.
